The inspiration for this project came from my desire to create a distinctive coffee table featuring teak – solid teak, and specifically working with my own resawn teak utilizing a vacuum bag on form system. A key design intention for the table was that it have a shelf to hide a couple coffee table books or periodicals/newspapers.
After a couple drawings I created a full size model. The full size model explored 4 single legs, 2 full width legs, and 2 single and 1 full width. The final piece is composed of the 4 leg solution. Creating the legs required 1/2” apple plywood forms, with 1/8” Italian bending plywood, 3/8” wiggle board, and almost 3/32” teak veneer.
In addition to the top edge banding, the following are also solid teak – the bread boards, the top vertical and horizontal spacers, the leg support shelf, and the leg upper and lower molding.
