The inspiration for this project came from my desire to create a distinctive display table with a single drawer. The drawer features dovetail joinery and a wenge drawer bottom. After a few drawings I created a quarter scale model which inspired me to move forward with a full scale prototype.
I knew in order to produce a table of this design and stability would require I create a number of jigs and templates. I started with a leg tapering jig, then about 7 drilling jigs, a frame and panel tenon cutting jig, and a template to assist with wrapping the drawer box around the legs.
I favored the double legs since I thought they would contribute to a pronounced viewing perspective. Wenge and yellowheart woods were selected for a striking contrast.
